GNU Screen - copy and paste into a buffer file

I was interested in testing the the GNU Screen /tmp/screen-exchange vulnerability found in:

but had a difficult time finding a simple how-to to perform this rather simple task. The following excerpt from Pastebin blog broke it free for me:

"Advanced copying
set Screen into copy mode with C-a , select the text between two keystrokes and then set a buffer file in the current directory with C-a :bufferfile notes.txt. This file is written into by C-a >."
