Debian Lenny / VMWare - not auto detecting sound card

I have been having problems with my VMWare guests, (Windows XP), auto detecting my sound card. I finally traced it down to missing sound devices, as described here. The fix is to run:
sudo /usr/share/alsa-base/snddevices

Since these disappear after a reboot, I created a nice alias in my .bashrc:
alias vmsound=' sudo /usr/share/alsa-base/snddevices'

Debian Lenny - Gnome 2.22 and Intel GM965/GL960 Slowness

The graphics with my Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller on Debian Lenny have been horribly slow. So slow that I had reverted to Windows Vista once more... After giving Lenny another try, I found the same graphics issue was coming into play, and came across this Ubuntu Launchpad bug, which gives the fix. Add:

To /etc/environment, and the following Options to /etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
Identifier "Configured Video Device"
Option "AccelMethod" "exa"
Option "MigrationHeuristic" "greedy"
Option "ExaNoComposite" "false"

This is on a Gateway E-475m:

Finally, back in paradise!

GNU Screen - copy and paste into a buffer file

I was interested in testing the the GNU Screen /tmp/screen-exchange vulnerability found in:

but had a difficult time finding a simple how-to to perform this rather simple task. The following excerpt from Pastebin blog broke it free for me:

"Advanced copying
set Screen into copy mode with C-a , select the text between two keystrokes and then set a buffer file in the current directory with C-a :bufferfile notes.txt. This file is written into by C-a >."
